I first used LinkedIn more than 10 years ago to scale a nonprofit from just 1 to 120 universities, and to raise more than $1M. I did this all organically, without spending a dime on paid marketing. Today, I leverage this skillset to teach consultants how to use LinkedIn marketing to grow their businesses. My business motto is: You’re not on LinkedIn to go viral. You’re on LinkedIn to find clients! I have helped more than 100 consultants use LinkedIn to find clients. I live in Tel Aviv, Israel with my husband, 1-year old baby, Liam, and dog, Quentin.

Interview Questions

1.  What’s one strategy your business used recently that created meaningful growth?

I recently hosted my first sales webinar to teach my audience how to book discovery calls on LinkedIn. I had more than 130 webinar registrants, and 5 sales of my signature program “Leads on LinkedIn” from the webinar. (If you’re interested in getting the recording, you can find it here: sararoyf.com/training)

2.  How has AI or technology changed the way you operate or serve clients?

I’ve incorporated AI into my own workflows to save me time and help me be more creative. For example, when I get stuck writing copy, I brainstorm with ChatGPT to come up with new ideas. I also incorporate custom GPT bots into my paid program Leads on LinkedIn, so my clients can generate post ideas within seconds. This process used to take them upwards of 30 minutes.

3.  What’s one thing you stopped doing that actually helped your business grow?

I don’t sell custom offers or packages. All of my clients work with me in my coaching program called Leads on LinkedIn. Structuring my business this way has made my business far more focused and given me the ability to continually refine the program, so I feel great selling it!

4.  What’s a customer insight you discovered that changed the way you do business?

As a consultant, I learned the customers want me to tell them what to do. That means I need to have a clear process to describe the work I do, so they can decide if they want to work that way. Since creating my own framework, my marketing has gotten significantly easier and more streamlined.

5. If a business had to improve ONE area to grow faster in the next 90 days, what should it be?

Learn how to send outreach messages! Doing so allows you to create your own demand for your services, rather than sitting back passively and waiting for customers to find you.

6.  What’s one thing you do consistently that keeps your pipeline healthy?

Every week, I send at least 10 direct outreach messages on LinkedIn (and teach my clients to do the same). These conversations build relationships that lead to sales.

7.  What’s a decision you made in the last year that had a bigger impact than you expected, and what led you to make it?:

I invested in my back-end systems for my business. The process has been both more time consuming and more rewarding than I expected, as it has allowed my clients to have a significantly better experience and me to serve more folks.

8.  What’s one process you streamlined that made a noticeable difference in efficiency or results?

Earlier this year, I streamlined my offboarding process, so I collect feedback from each client when they wrap up my program. I value this feedback tremendously, and it creates a clear end to the program so nothing is a surprise.

9. What book, podcast, or resource has influenced your thinking or business decisions lately and why?

I enjoy listening to Natalie Eckdahl’s podcast “The Biz of Nonprofit Consultants”. While I’m not technically in Natalie’s target demographic, I work with a lot of nonprofit consultants and enjoy learning the strategies she teaches and hearing her perspective.
